Murder Trial - The Dissapearance Of Renee & Andrew Macrae - BBC TV Series

I’ve had such a busy summer writing for this BBC Network show and I’m so excited to share it with you all!

The first two episodes of this documentary series take a look into the heart of the long-awaited murder trial related to one of Scotland’s most notorious unsolved mysteries - the sudden, unexpected disappearance of Renee MacRae and her three-year-old son Andrew, and the Scottish criminal justice system’s 46-year quest for justice. With remarkable access to the courtroom, one of the most long-awaited murder trials in Scotland’s history is finally heard.

It marks the first time I have worked with another composer and what a fruitful collaboration it was! LA-based Paul Leonard-Morgan had previously written the title theme so along with a lot of original composition I had fun doing what composers have done down the centuries by writing variations on a pre-existing theme and incorporating it into my own work.

Huge thanks to Paul for getting me involved and for his invaluable guidance throughout the process.

Massive thanks to Alice Allen and Patsy Reid for their beautiful string playing which brings the score to life and to Keir Long at GloWorm Recording Studios for so expertly capturing their sound.

Finally thanks and respect to Matt Pinder, all at Firecrest Films and the BBC commissioners for trusting me to come up with the musical goods.

The series has been so beautifully shot and edited with a compassion and a sensitivity to the seriousness of the subject matter. Paul and I dearly hope the music contributes to this subtle storytelling and helps in a small way keep the memory of Renee and Andrew alive.
